This course will focus on core ideas in network security. The first portion of the class will review basic network protocols: Ethernet, 802.11 (wifi), IP, UDP, TCP, ARP, DHCP, DNS, ICMP, BGP, SMTP, POP/IMAP, FTP, HTTP, IGMP, etc. Then we will introduce attacks on these basic technologies: TCP hijacking, ARP cache poisoning and domain spoofing, as well as countermeasures.

No application is required for individual courses and course bundles. Course readiness is to be determined by the student based upon information provided in the course descriptions on this site. Academy instructors are available to discuss your readiness and provide feedback; however, final course readiness decisions are the responsibility of the student.

The following prerequisites should help to you to determine your readiness for this course:

  • Basic network understanding (CCNA/Net+ preferred)
  • Familiarity with CLI (command line interface)
  • Familiarity with computer hardware
